Job Opening at The Pump Station: Corporate Controller


The Pump Station & Nurtury is looking for a corporate Controller to oversee the accounting and finance functions for its three stores, web and warehouse operations. Initially, the Controller will be responsible for reviewing existing accounting systems and procedures, making recommendations to executive management, and overseeing the implementation of agreed-upon changes. The goal is to build an accounting infrastructure that not only meets current needs, but is responsive to business changes and growth opportunities. In addition, the Controller will oversee one full-time and one part-time accounting staff in processing day-to-day transactions and general ledger closings. Financial statement design and preparation will primarily be the Controller's responsibility, along with recurring and ad hoc management reporting. The Controller will have primary responsibility for risk management and payroll administration. The Controller will report directly to the CEO/COO..

The ideal candidate will have broad experience in both public accounting and private business, preferably in a start-up environment. He or she will thrive on creating order and efficiency, harnessing technology wherever practical to do the heavy lifting. This person will have the ability to prioritize and weigh cost vs. benefit in establishing an effective internal control environment. Strong communication skills and a professional, friendly demeanor are a must.

Compensation will be based on experience. In addition, we can offer a flexible schedule to the right candidate. After demonstrating success in the Controller position, we expect this person to grow into a CFO role.

We are open to considering a variety of candidates. However, minimum qualifications include:

  • 4 year college degree in Accounting or related
  • 10 years professional work experience, including at least 3 years in a senior management position
  • Proven track record of achieving results
  • Thorough understanding of Excel


CPA is desired, but not required. Experience with Quickbooks and Retail Pro are a plus.
