Congratulations to Plum Organics!

Posted by Samantha on February 22, 2011
Plum launched a stage 1 line called JUST Fruits, the perfect choice for baby’s first solid food.  Don’t panic, it’s organic, and it is packaged in BPA-free pouches too.  Plum Organics JUST, BPA-Free pouches, offer a first-time-food of pure and natural, organic fruits for babies and children alike.

All JUST pouches are 100% fruit purees in single-ingredient varieties for flavor and ingredient introduction.  The innovative packaging, helps to naturally preserve the ingredients, which allows for gentle cooking to retain the vibrant color and flavor of each fruit.

These pouches come in a variety of delicious flavors our mama tester’s babies and children loved. JUST prunes, JUST mango’s, JUST peaches, JUST bananas, JUST peaches, and  JUST apples. “Each one smells as if you have the actual fruit in hand,” on mama raved.

But should a parent really panic if they are feeding their babies conventional fruits and veggies?

Pesticides In Our Babies Food
Scientists have linked children’s exposure to pesticides to many different health effects – the health outcome can depend on the type of pesticide, the level of exposure, and – sometimes most critically – the timing of exposure in relation to a child’s development. Some of the strongest linkages have been found between pesticides and impacts on a child’s developing nervous system, including serious developmental delays. Studies have also found linkages with childhood cancers including leukemia, birth defects, low birth weight, and reproductive effects in adulthood from exposure during infancy or childhood, including low sperm count and infertility. If exposure levels are high, short term effects can include dizziness and nausea, rashes and immune system suppression.

Switching to organic not only protects your family from the health effects of pesticide residues, it protects farmer and farm workers from direct exposure to dangerous poisons, protects bees, fish, birds and other animals from chemical exposure, and protects the land, water and air from contamination. By buying organic, you are helping convince more farmers to make the switch to a safer and healthier kind of farming – and that protects their children too.

Plum JUST Fruit Wins MACT Excellence Award
Not only is this product a great first food and pesticide free, but they are additionally:
  • GMO-Free
  • Certified Organic

  • Nutrient rich
  • BPA-free packaging
  • PVC-free packaging

Reviews From Real Mamas On Plum JUST

The first time we used Just baby, my daughter was 6 months.  She is now 17 months and we are still using the fruit pouches.  Most mornings we eat oatmeal and one of our favorite things to add is the Just Prunes made by Plum.  This is what she considers a sweet treat and it always puts a smile on her face, Mommy too!

It is nice at times to have the simplicity of adding Just  bananas or prunes to other foods or just having the pouches by themselves as a snack or before a meal.  This product has brought us much joy during eating times.  My daughter does seem to have a sweet tooth and if she considers this pure organic fruit puree as sweets, I am a happy Mama.  We love the small size with no waste.  It seems to be the perfect serving size.   Thumbs-up!

Plum Organics baby food is a must have in any babies diet! I know in our household it has been the go to food for the past couple weeks. We enjoy seeing our daughter eating products from the new JUST fruits line as its packed with vitamins & minerals and always organic. Its a simple way to get her to eat her fruits and vegetables without having to force her to eat them, she loves these food pouches and always replies with “yummy” after we ask her how it tasted. This company’s products are simply wonderful.

I enjoy feeding the JUST fruits to my daughter as they have kept out the added sugars, salt, and artificial flavors. As well as the packaging is BPA free materials that are resealable, recyclable, and reusable, for those who are not aware of what this chemical is, it acts as an estrogen mimicker in the body. Compared to leading brands that have all of these and more. It gives me a sense of comfort knowing good foods are going into her body.

To make the experience more exciting, the company partnered with Boon to make a dispensing spoon that is free of phthalates, BPA, PVC, and attaches to the Plum pouches. Just when I thought pouch feeding was easy, things just got even simpler. The spoon is great for one handed feeding, and also easy enough for my 20 month old to try and use herself for self feeding. The spoon is 100% dishwasher safe which is perfect for our family.  JUST apple is my baby’s favorite!

The JUST fruit pouches are at a great price for the quality of food your feeding your growing child. Organic and packed with vitamin rich ingredients, what more could one ask for?  For babies first solid food this is an awesome buy.  And parents can enjoy tasting these too, they smell great and taste even better!

Great Deals on Bravado Bras!

Pregnant in Pink

A glowing Pink spent the day snapping photos with her mother, Judy Moore, at the Santa Monica pier in California. Reports that Pink and husband Carey Hart were expecting surfaced in mid-November, and the singer confirmed the pregnancy a week later on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show.'

Now there is certainly no question that Pink is expecting. The very pregnant photographer-in-training only has a few weeks left -- the baby is due this spring!

The Woombie – it’s like a big hug!

The Woombie Baby Swaddle. Click here to buy!
When I first heard about the Woombie and how it’s designed I was very excited. What a brilliant idea! It truly solves the typical swaddling dilemma of how to keep the swaddle secure, while at the same time creating that familiar, soothing feeling for the baby of being in the womb. Get it, Woombie?

A Washington University study has scientifically proven what parents have instinctively known for centuries; most infants sleep better when swaddled. They wake less frequently and sleep more soundly, aiding in important brain development. Think of sleep as nutrition for baby’s brain.

Coming from a strong background in infant mental health, my hesitation about some of the newer swaddles that pin the babies’ arms down at their sides is, that the ideal position for their limbs, not only for soothing but also for neurological organization and regulation, is to bring them into what we call their “midline.” Picture a baby in the fetal position or you in “child’s pose” at your yoga class. Bringing everything to the center helps what Dan Siegel, MD, author of “Parenting from the Inside Out, “ calls the middle prefrontal cortex of the brain to reach an optimal state of integration. From this state, your baby is better able to access moving to either sleep or a calm awake state. This is what we mean by “regulation.”

Additionally, pediatric orthopedists are more likely to support a swaddle in a natural position, with elbows bent, hips and knees flexed for proper joint development. This is the exact position the Woombie creates.

More reasons to love the Woombie:
  • Prevents startle reflex Promotes & enhances motor development by allowing baby to stretch and move their limbs
  • Prevents face scratching
& keeps "busy" hands away from face & pacifier
  • No loose blankets to ride up and cause potential suffocation
  • Very easy to use & encourages back sleeping
  • No more worry of the swaddle coming undone, which can lead to potential blanket suffocation
  • May see a marked improvement in colic symptoms.
  • Prevents overheating, which has been linked to SIDS.
  • Adaptable for one or two arms or legs free swaddling, handy during transitioning (see photos below).
Important Safety Rule: An easy way to know when to immediately remove any type of swaddle is as soon as your baby can roll in either direction. Swaddling is a wonderful temporary way to help babies regulate and sleep better during the early months when we have to put them on their backs to sleep. Once they can roll, we want them to be able to roll in both directions at will. Our ultimate goal for them is to be free to move around the bed and find their preferred sleep position.

When my now 14 year old was a baby, all we had was flannel receiving blankets to swaddle. Once my son “broke out” of that, it was over. I wish I’d had the Woombie, a new and exciting addition to the Pump Station and Nurtury’s continual quest to bring you the best and the smartest products.

As a psychotherapist, infant sleep expert and leader of Mommy and Me classes here at the Pump Station, I would love to get your feedback and testimonials on the Woombie. This will in turn help other new moms navigate these challenging first months, especially, as we well know, around the issue of sleep!

Breast Pumps Now Deductible, IRS Says

From The Wall Street Journal:
By Rachel Emma Silverman

In good news for nursing mothers, the IRS just announced that breast pumps and other "supplies that assist lactation" may be deductible medical expenses or can be reimbursed under flexible-spending accounts or health-savings accounts.

The ruling is effective immediately and expenses can be used for 2010 returns, an IRS spokeswoman said.

Until now, as we've posted before, nursing mothers couldn’t use flexible-spending accounts to pay for breast pumps and other nursing supplies because the IRS said that breastfeeding didn’t have enough health benefits to qualify as medical or preventative care.

Now, though, the IRS says that like obstetric care, nursing supplies are "for the purpose of affecting a structure or function of the body of the lactating woman." Breast pumps and attachments and "other related equipment and supplies that are used in breastfeeding" may be eligible, the IRS spokeswoman said, but "before claiming the medical deduction, taxpayers should assess whether an item is used primarily for extracting milk or for other purposes," she added.  More guidance may be forthcoming in the IRS's revised publication 502, Medical and Dental Expenses, available at

The new ruling means that families can use pretax funds from their flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts for pumps and other supplies.  Medical expenses, meanwhile, are not deductible until they exceed 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income. Breast pumps typically cost more than $200 and, along with supplies, can run as high as $1,000 in the first year of a baby's life, Reuters reports*.

American Academy of Pediatrics, which encourages new mothers to breastfeed and had long-sought the IRS ruling, praised today’s decision, saying the new tax treatment makes "breastfeeding a more practical option for new and working mothers."

LifeNests, Tripp Trapps and the Wright Mommy

Now available at the Pump Station Stores and is the LifeNest Sleep System! We are happy to bring this wonderful product to our Pump Station family.

The UbiMED® LifeNest is a patented sleep system designed by physicians. It's not a baby positioner as it doesn't include bolsters. The LifeNest is more like a hammock. The LifeNest has netting with air channels allowing your little one to breathe freely even if they flop onto their tummies. The curved support of the netting lets your baby feel like they're being cuddled. Enough from us, check out the LifeNest™ yourself and watch the short video below to see how this Sleep System works. It's only a minute long, you can spare that. Well, maybe?

We are also offering STOKKE Tripp Trapp baby gear. Tired of watching wiggly worm trying to get comfortable sitting in the highchair? Have you ever tried to sit up high, at twice your own height in a chair that has your legs just dangling in the breeze? Not Fun! Stokke's Classic and Trend chairs are designed with an adjustable foot rest to bring the floor up to your little one's little legs and feet. How cool is that?

We've carried the Tripp Trapp highchairs in the stores for a while, but now you can order the Tripp Trapp Classic and Trend chairs online including the matching baby sets and cushions too. We usually keep a couple of the cooler looking Trend chairs in the stores. Call if you're looking for Green, Pink or Purple Trend chairs. (310) 998-1981.

Lastly we still have a few spots open for our popular Wright Mommy & Me Groups. Call a location near you to sign up. Location information below: BONUS: During each 8 week session you will be given a 5% discount card
